Welcome to my very first blog on the Self-esteem123 website. It took a great deal of time, effort, dedication and persistence to reach this point, so my first topic is very apropos – Perseverance.
On my darkest days in this process, I struggled with many obstacles both internally and externally. I realized early on from my own experience of building this website that disappointments and set-backs will be encountered in every aspect of life. There is no way around it. Perseverance is the key to reaching your goals and no one can preserver if they don’t have a certain level of self-confidence.
The first obstacles I experienced in building this website were internal and the ones that if I didn’t get past, the process would never have begun. My own insecurities and negative self-talk nearly stifled my progress. I didn’t foresee all the work involved to get this website up and running. There were many times I sabotaged myself, the website and the business plan, and it all stemmed from a lack of confidence. I realized these behaviors were exactly what my clients experience in much more everyday situations and decided to apply my own self-esteem techniques to decrease the fear within myself and start this website. Daily positive affirmations, communicating with others, asking for help and support, taking steps to come out of my comfort zone – all helped me reach a place where I was ready to tackle the next hurdle – dealing with professionals in the business world.
Externally, I found that many of the experts I hired presented themselves as anything but professional. I had to endure a plethora of cancelled appointments, lack of return phone calls, missed deadlines and unfinished projects that I hired others to do to help finish this website. I dealt with these obstacles by practicing flexibility and asking for help when I normally would not have. Ego can be a barrier here, when you have to admit you need support. Letting go of the ego and reaching out was the next step I took to realize my dreams. The challenges were difficult, but not impossible to overcome. This website is the perfect example of not giving up and working around difficult situations.
So keep plugging away. Avoid becoming self-defeated about the things you want to accomplish. You may question your motives, your integrity and you might ask yourself whether you are able to handle the undertaking. Perseverance will see you through. If you stay focused, practice the techniques that will alter negative thinking, work to overcome discouragement, you will get there. For those of you who still are unsure they can do it, ask questions, research, ask more questions and definitely do not settle. Everything you do is related to how you see yourself. Envision the end result and the road to get there will appear! Know that difficult situations are going to happen, how you deal with them is what’s important. Sounds like self-esteem again to me, it’s easy as 123!
